SOUTHAMPTON singing star Craig David visited the Friends Provident St Mary's Stadium to support Southampton FC's Racism Just Ain't Saintly campaign.
"The aim is to deter people from shouting abuse," said Craig.
"It's a small minority of people who are trying to dictate to the majority. It's really unwarranted, especially at football matches, and we're trying to stamp it out."
The campaign, which is part of a national drive to keep racism out of football, is a joint initiative between Southampton City Council, Southampton Football Club and club sponsors Friends Provident.
Craig was shown around the stadium by Matthew Le Tissier before joining in a kick-about on the pitch with James Beattie, Jason Dodd and team manager Gordon Strachan.
"Gordon Strachan's legs were a bit bandy, but he did really well," laughed Craig.
James Beattie joked that he was not too impressed with Craig's ball skills. "He had new trainers on and he didn't want to get them dirty."
Craig said: "It's been a real honour to meet lots of people I've been a big fan of, including James. I used to come to a lot of games at the Dell. I was one of those kids who goes down the front to try to get autographs, so to meet Matt Le Tiss is a great honour."
Craig was also excited to kick a ball about on the pitch with his old friend James Beattie.
"It's ironic - I've been such a big Saints supporter but I never thought I'd be on the pitch with one of the greatest strikers in the world," he said.
