TWO of Southampton's most ancient ceremonies are due to take place next week.
Beating the Bounds, where civic leaders mark out the boundaries of Southampton and Court Leet where citizens can bring their concerns to the attention of city bosses - will both take place on Tuesday.
The Sheriff of Southampton Councillor Harry Mitchell will visit Cedar School in Redbridge Lane.
The school is a special school for children aged between two and 16. Cllr Mitchell, with the help of the children, is due to beat down any undergrowth to make clear the old boundary of Southampton which lies just outside the school grounds.
From there, Cllr Mitchell will travel back to the Civic Centre arriving at the annual Court Leet which will begin at 11am where he will take the role of foreman of the jury.
Court Leet, which dates from the 14th century, provides an opportunity for any citizen or groups of citizens from Southampton to make representations (called presentments) about "matters of local concern" in front of a jury comprising city and county councillors, honorary aldermen, past mayors and sheriffs.
If any person would like to make a presentment or would like more information on either Beating the Bounds or Court Leet, contact the Mayor's office on Southampton 023 8083 2433 or 023 8083 2434.
