Rod Bransgrove is relying on Shane Warne and an "Australianised" Paul Terry to resurrect Hampshire's fortunes next year - but he still loves beating the Aussies.

He said: "I love it when we beat Australia at anything - even tiddly winks. If I play cards with Warney it's passionate and I was quite happy for Australia to make excuses after we beat them at rugby."

Bransgrove added: "We don't have any trouble producing cricketers up to a certain age, we don't get stuffed by Australia at under 17 and under 19 level

"The development of players later on is the biggest problem.

"England Academy director Rod Marsh (the former Australia wicketkeeper) is a doing a good job, he's a good, solid guy who isn't prejudiced but our problem is a lifestyle issue.

"We try and fit in sport around our lives but in Australia they fit their lives around sport. The main thing we can learn from Australia is sporting focus.

"There is no doubt that Simon Katich's life revolves around getting back in the Australia side.

"I hope some of our junior players have seen that and might remember that when the turkey comes around at Christmas."
