Southampton racer Jon Barnes sped to another podium finish in the Powertrain Caterham R400 Challenge at Brands Hatch on Sunday.
The 20-year-old from West End was contesting the 11th round of the championship and was in contention for victory throughout in his Team Parker Racing-prepared Caterham.
Barnes led for a spell before falling behind Surrey's Dillon Battistini in the closing stages; then, right on the line, championship leader Dan Stilp stole ahead of Barnes who crossed the line in third place, less than two-tenths of a second behind the winner.
Round 12 was a shortlived affair for Barnes, who speared into a gravel trap at Paddock Hill Bend on the second lap.
Waterlooville's Pete James failed to finish either race. In the first his car lost a wheel and retired, and in the second he suffered damage in a collision with another car.
James slips to fifth in the championship standings. Barnes is 11th overall.
A win and a second place for Northampton's Stilp at Brands Hatch has set the scene for a thrilling finale to the Powertrain Caterham R400 Challenge. Next month at Brands, Stilp and Battistini will go head to decide to decide the outcome of the championship and the £7,000 top prize.
