Goal-loving Lymington & New Milton took their tally to an incredible 17 in two games with a 9-0 Wessex League demolition job on Downton last night.

Just three days after despatching Clevedon United 8-2 in the FA Cup, the Linnets again hit irresistible form at Fawcett's Field against the hapless Wiltshire side, whose misery was compounded by losing top gun Matt Guy to injury in the first half.

Lymington began where they had left off on Saturday with Kevin Reacord scoring the first of his hat-trick after just three minutes.

Kevin James weighed in with two and there was one apiece for Ben Thomson, Darren Curtis, Pete Smith and John Bailey.

The only surprise was that Saturday's hat-trick hero, Paddy James, did not get in on the act.

Linnets' assistant manager Richie Phippard confessed: "I'm shell-shocked. I can't believe we played that well again. I was a bit concerned it would be a case of 'after the Lord Mayor's Show' but we were 3-0 up at half-time and steamrollered them in the second half.

"Our passing and movement was excellent. The lads are on the crest of a wave."

Barry Blankley's first match in charge of table-topping AFC Totton ended with a shock 5-3 defeat by Hamble ASSC at Follands Park.

The only disappointment for Planemakers' manager Larry Clay was that he wasn't there to see it. He was kept away by a works AGM, leaving reserve boss Shaun Coles in charge.

Blankley, who was named as John Robson's successor last Friday, could not have asked for a better start as his former Bashley charge Chris Marwood put Totton 1-0 up in the first minute.

But by the 77th minute the Stags were 5-1 down thanks to a Robbie Cox hat-trick sandwiched between singles from Craig Rickman and Steve Whitcher.

Two goals in the last two minutes from Martin Whiddett and Mark Osman were too little too late.

BAT are starting to motor after an appalling start which brought six straight league defeats.

They broke the duck by beating Bournemouth 3-1 on Saturday and followed up with a 1-0 win at Blackfield, where Paul West's 80th-minute effort settled a scrappy affair.

Bemerton made it six wins from their last nine games by beating rock-bottom Alton Town 3-1 through Stuart Findlay (2) and Neil Cole. "We deserved it, but they're by no means the worst team in the league," said Bemerton boss Steve Slade.
