THESE are the two men police want to quiz in connection with a £30,000 theft of fishing reels.

The pair were caught on closed-circuit TV camera after entering Hansfords fishing tackle shop in Fareham last Thursday at about 3.45pm.

During the early hours of the following day, thieves removed 32 roof tiles to smash through the ceiling of the High Street premises.

Once inside they stole top-of-the- range carp fishing reels.

These pictures show two men loitering in the shop looking at fishing equipment on Thursday afternoon.

One of the men was seen to disappear into the storeroom where the specialist reels and rods were stored.

The same CCTV camera from which these pictures were taken was covered with a bag during Friday's raid between 3am and 4am.

Claire Poingdestre, who helps run the 22-year-old family business, said she hoped the release of the images would lead police to the culprits.

"The images are very clear and I really hope they jog someone's memory. This has all been very distressing for us after we have all built up the business over the years."

DC Martyn Allen, from Fareham CID, is leading the investigation into the carefully-planned break-in.

"The reels which were stolen were the most expensive in the shop and were all specially designed for carp fishing," he said.

"Whoever did this knew exactly what they were looking for and ignored the less expensive equipment."

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a light coloured van, possibly a white Ford Courier, in the area at the time of break-in.

People who were in the vicinity of the High Street or Consort Close about the time the men were seen entering the fishing tackle shop or between 3am and 4am the following morning should come forward too.

DC Allen warned anglers not to be conned into buying the stolen goods.

"If anyone is offered Daiwa or Shimano carp fishing reels for sale, recognises either of the men pictured or knows of their current whereabouts, they should contact the police."
