Trojans' unbeaten start to the new season continued but it could be at a cost as their nail-biting victory over winless Farnborough left two key players requiring hospital treatment.

Lock Kevin Baker will be out of action for the foreseeable future having fractured his tibia and tore knee ligaments in an incident within the opening ten minutes while fly-half James Pennington left the ground with a serious cut above his eye that required ten stitches on the half-hour.

It was a deeply physical encounter and the players on both sides will be feeling the pains of their labour for some time - but it was not a clash of animosity. It was just a fiercely contested game that the home side scraped 13-8 thanks to some tumultuous defending in the second period.

Farnborough won the action on the second pitch 5-3, while Baker received treatment on the main, but when the game was reverted back, Tim Zeale, who had taken over the kicking duties from the injured Pennington, put the hosts ahead with a second penalty.

He also added the conversion of skipper Russell Clarke's try just before half-time as the home side justifiably went into the break 13-5 ahead but they had defend stoutly against a determined North Hampshire outfit that claimed just an Alex Stuart penalty for their considered effort in the second period.

Millbrook are still in search of their first victory of the campaign but came within an adjudged forward pass of defeating Fareham Heathens, going down 12-8.

Had the official not felt captain Dean Weavers pass to winger Paul Moschakis was forward, it would have been the home side celebrating and moving away from the wrong end instead of the visitors for whom skipper Mark Dunning was disappointed with his team's performance.

A young Millbrook side, minus a number of players at the Eastleigh Veterans Tournament, faired well but they could not prevent Heathens using the slope to their advantage in the second half to score tries through Dunning and second-time debutant Matt Southey.

A stung Sandown & Shanklin downed a confident Eastleigh side on Sunday in a scrappy game that lifted the Islanders up to second in the table.

Hurricanes centre John Miselbach had a field day running in four tries as the visitors took all of their chances while their hosts failed to do likewise, a far cry from their previous showing of the last fortnight.

New Milton & District's clubhouse opening parade was ruined by another trouncing by Guernsey as they handed the Foresters a second successive 30-point thrashing, this time running out 37-7 winners.

An 18-point haul from Isle of Wight full-back Andy White sent Fawley spiralling to the foot of the table as the difference in the two promoted sides showed clearly - the unbeaten champions dumping the second-placed side 33-5.
