A MUCH lauded bus service, known as the 'wigglybus', needs to wiggly a little more if it is to meet the needs of users in the south east Kennet area.

But councillors who wanted a better service were told there was no wriggle-room left.

Members of the south east Kennet area forum want the service to be extended.

They said there was a need for the bus to travel from the Collingbournes to Ludg-ershall and Tidworth enabling people to reach doctors and leisure services and from all three communities to Upavon, enabling travellers to get to MoD work at Trenchard Lines.

But Ian White, Wiltshire passenger transport co-ordinator said it simply wasn't possible. "We can't meet everybody's needs," he said.

"The service was designed to run into Pewsey and there isn't time in the running schedule to extend the area without taking it out the Pewsey end."

He said, with a half-hourly service between Salisbury and Andover, Ludgershall and Tidworth enjoy one of the best bus services for miles .

Ludgershall councillor, Peter Richardson, said: "People in this area feel that we are let down by Wiltshire County Council. The county council think we are 'out in the sticks' and don't bother about us."

But Mr White said there was a need to identify needs and then identify the resources necessary to meet them. Last year extra money went into the transport service but it was eaten up by a 20 per cent rise in bus contract prices.
