THE Waterside's very own 'silver surfers' have been clicking onto the Internet to mark Grandparents Online Week.
The week is part of a new government initiative to introduce older people to the web.
The idea is that grandparents will benefit by learning new skills, allowing them to help their grandchildren with homework - improving communication within families and between home and school.
At Blackfield Neighbourhood Centre, near Hythe, the message has certainly been getting across.
UK online administrator Glynnis Hastings, based at the centre, said: "The oldest lady that came along was over 90. We provide a fun way of learning.
"People can learn how to use a computer and improve their literacy skills."
The centre, which has its own community website at: www. thewaterside.net is open from 9am to 5pm, free of charge, and people are welcome to drop in, or make an appointment.
