Basingstoke are the new team on the block having just joined the Southampton Premier League.

They decided to quit the Hampshire North Premier League because the games weren't challenging enough.

Established in 1964, the club first started out as a fitness club and they would play a bit of netball to end with.

But the girls got a team up together and have never looked back.

All the team members have been with the club for several years.

Recent expansion has seen the addition of junior squads; they have 25 to 30 girls in the junior club aged from 11 to 16 who play in the Basingstoke Junior League.

LET'S MEET THE TEAM:

Goalkeeper: Liz McGill started playing when she was at university. She moved from Liverpool to Basingstoke and joined their netball club 17 years. She works as a mental health service manager while interests include jogging with team-mates and photography.

Goal defence: Jill Johnson is a founder member of the team - when she first moved to Basingstoke there was no netball - and has been playing for 35 years. The mum of one is a keen gardener.

Wing Defence: Ginette Rimmell has been playing for the team for 12 years. Keen on gym work and keep fit.

Centre: Ann Jones has been playing for the club for 30 years and plays three times a week. In her spare time she likes to bake cakes and go cycling or running.

Wing attack: Karen Connor has been playing for Basingstoke for 16 of her 26 years in the sport. She is a buyer for cockpit repairs for all airline companies. She also has two children and a grandson who takes up most of her spare time.

Goal Attack: Jo Haffoley, 19, likes to go clubbing and spending time with her boyfriend. The reason why she started playing netball was because her mum, Chris, is the coach.

Goal Shooter: Sarah Gay, 22, is studying to be a P.E teacher at Southampton University. At the weekends she goes clubbing at Liquid and keeps fit.

Teresa Cook: Primarily a playing reserve but her main contribution is being an umpire. The reason why she became an umpire was because nobody else wanted to do it. Now, 20 years later, she is currently an 'A' level umpire. The highest level of umpiring she has covered was a game between Wales and Hampshire North.

Lesley Mansfield: Has been playing for the club for 13 years, two years after taking up the sport while in the airforce. When not playing she regularly goes skiing and attends the theatre.

Carole Witt: Also a founder member of the club, she has also been playing for 35 years. Her passion is netball and she intends to carry on playing as long as she stays injury free. In her spare time she likes to walk her dog.

Chris Haffoley: Mother of Jo, she has been playing for Basingstoke for 10 years and in her spare time coaches the Basingstoke juniors.
