Brading Town should have been celebrating their first point of the season after a 1-1 draw with Ringwood Town on Saturday.

Instead the Premier Division cellar-dwellers were sick they had let a one-goal lead slip away with a disputed penalty late in the game.

Bob Lane, pictured below, the Ringwood manager, had no doubt there was a handball on the line, and he admitted:" I was surprised the player stayed on."

Carl Fleet stepped up to convert the penalty to cancel out Brading's lead but Lane added: "I don't think either of us were too happy with draw.

"I'm getting frustrated with out inconsistency. We drew with the top side Poole in midweek and now we have drawn against the bottom side. Whenever we play teams from lower down, we seem to sink to their level. We had a dozen chances in each half against Brading and failed to take them."

Aldermaston slipped back to joint bottom after a 5-0 beating by Portsmouth RN, but their chairman Dave Griffiths vowed: "We won't finish bottom this season."

The side from North Hampshire have finished bottom twice in the last three seasons, but Griffiths points out that manager Steve Kirby has brought in several experienced players, some with Combined Counties League experience. "Once we started nedding the new side in, we should start moving up," said Griffiths.

At the other end of the table Andover New Street leapfrogged East Cowes Vics into top spot after beating them 2-1 at Foxcotte Park.

Nick Turpin missed a great chance of giving New Street the lead in a goalless first half, but made up for it by breaking the deadlock on the hour. Lance Cooper got the second with ten minutes to go before Vics grabbed a late consolation.

Last season's Division 2 champions Laverstock & Ford met the Division 1 champions Hayling United at The Dell and beat them 1-0 with right back Ian Cormack popping up with the decisive goal. It was a game where defenders took the laurels, especially Laverstock skipper Colin Banks who marshalled his defence well.

Colden Common were happy enough to come away from Paulsgrove with a 1-1 draw after James Attenbury's goal for Common was matched by Jason House. Common might have clinched it in the second half when Richard Lang missed out in a one-on-one with the keeper then they had an effort cleared off the line.

Dean Higgins could be in contention for a first team recall at Common after scoring his fourth goal in three games for the reserves. It helped them beat Locks Heath 3-1 in the Hampshire Combination, with player manager Elliott Costick and Keenan Phillips getting the other goals.

Romsey Town drew 1-1 at Yateley Green but felt they should have won. Reuben Taylor came into the side and was victim of marginal offside decision after putting the ball in the net. Simon Dea'th's legitimate goal for Romsey was cancelled out in the last ten minutes.
