LEADING gymnasts are turning cartwheels having secured a future for one of the leading clubs in the south.

Members of the Dynamo School of Gymnastics feared their club would be forced to close when the lease ran out at their current base in the Hedge End Solent Industrial Estate.

But funding from several sources - in particular a £750,000 Sports England grant - means the school can make a permanent base in a new state-of-the-art centre.

Olympic hopeful Vanessa Hobbs is especially delighted with the news.

The 16-year-old, who lives in Mallory Crescent, Fareham, hopes to become a world leader in the sport after delaying going to college for a year to train full-time.

Now Vanessa can practise at home instead of moving full-time to the Lilleshall Training Centre in Shropshire.

She said: "It's a great achievement for the club. The new centre means I can be at home a lot more and that we can get more new members."

The centre will be built at Hamble Community Sports College, completing the second phase of a £5m redevelopment of the school. In addition to money raised by Dynamo and Hamble College and the Sports England grant, funding has been given by Eastleigh Borough and Hampshire County Councils and Hampshire Playing Fields.
