ONE of the most popular children's characters of all time makes his stage debut in a brand new show at the Nuffield theatre next week.
Based on the original picture books and animations by David McKee, The Extraordinary Adventures of Mr Benn has been adapted for the stage by director Daniel Buckroyd.
In his pinstripe suit and bowler hat, the time-travelling Mr Benn was one of the most popular children's characters of the 70s and 80s.
First screened in 1972, the cartoon series took audiences on amazing adventures as Mr Benn stepped through the changing room of a magical costume shop.
Voted number six in a Channel Four poll of the top 100 kids' programmes, Mr Benn has a cult following of nostalgic grown-ups. The play will be performed by the Nuffield's very own Theatre First Company, who specialise in the production of young people's theatre.
You can see The Extraordinary Adventures of Mr Benn at the Nuffield Theatre, Southampton from Thursday, October 2 to Sunday, October 5. Tickets cost £6. Box office: 023 8067 1771.
