AFTER what seems like a lifetime in the wilderness, the prodigal sons of pop music are back in the limelight with a new album and UK tour to boot.

Prodigal Sons, which was released on Monday, is their first album in ten years.

For anyone whose too young to remember back that far, The Christians aren't an evangelical group set to religiously convert the masses but a soul/gospel-inspired pop group fronted by Gary Christian.

They enjoyed chart success in the late 80s with such hits as Ideal World, Harvest for the World, Words and Hooverville (They Promised us the World) - clearly songs with 'world' in the title were popular with their fans.

After taking time out in the mid-90s, Garry, along with his brother Russell Christian and former band-mate Henry Priestman played a reunion show in 1999 which led onto several concerts over the next few years.

Their new album has a more stripped-down sound than previously and fans can expect the Basingstoke concert to be more of the same. The band have dispensed with the legion of session musicians they used to use, allowing fans to enjoy the harmonies at their best.

Tomorrow. Performance: 7.45pm. Tickets: £14.50. 01256 844244.
