PIRRIE PARK were celebrating a trophy double following the Southampton and District Men's BA Championship finals at Atherley.
Colin Stark established a substantial lead but eventually had to come from behind to stifle the miraculous comeback of Andy Anderson (Fleming Park) while Jody Bright marked his farewell appearance for the Shirley club by outgunning Middleton Cup bowler Mark Hammond in the under-25 singles.
Having edged past John Joslin 21-18 in his semi-final the previous day Stark looked like winning with much more in hand as he moved 19-8 ahead against Anderson.
However, the game was transformed over the next four ends as Anderson weighed in with 12 shots to go 20-19 up before Stark regained his composure to snatch the honours 21-20.
Bright, who had hit back from 19-13 down to defeat Andrew Herring 22-20 in the semi-finals, trailed 6-1 to Hammond of Banister Park. By the 10th they were level (10-10) and the stalemate still existed at 15-15 until Hammond crept 16-15 ahead only for Bright to seal his 21-16 victory with six shots over the next three ends.
Bright will be playing a lot more on the Atherley green in the future as he is joining them outdoors next year.
Eastleigh Rail were sure of picking up the singles crown after teammates Derek Walker and Mick Barrett reached the final.
Barrett had qualified for the national stages of the Champion of Champions and won the Southampton Open pairs at Atherley earlier this summer but on this occasion he had to give second best to his fellow Railway bowler.
Although Barrett led 10-6 Walker went 18-14 in front. Barrett did narrow the gap to 19-17 but Walker collected singles on the next two ends.
Pirrie Park were not the only club to chalk up a double as Eastleigh Rail achieved it while S&D league champions Banister Park surpassed them both with a three-timer, two of them going to Barry Bendall.
He teamed up with Denny Murrey and Trevor Comley to win the triples for the third year in a row, beating Eddie Rowe's Atherley trio 19-13, and partnered Geoff Norgate to a 26-18 benevolent handicap pairs' triumph having dashed 22-6 ahead after 10 ends against Brian Mainwaring and Ian Winterburn (Waterside) who started on plus one.
Peter Hammond and Malcolm Comley, 9-5 ahead at halfway, accelerated to land the pairs 20-9 for Banister Park against John Duhig and Terry Rye (Lockswood).
Eastleigh Rail's other success came in the fours with Stuart Martin, Dave Davis, Ricky Buggins and skip Ray Long powering home 20-17 having been 10-6 down on 10 ends to Steve Dowdell's Old Green rink.
Atherley's Peter Line scored a home win by capturing the veterans' singles 21-13 after leading Mike Munday (Romsey) 15-5.
