Hordle Cliff was the setting for the sixth round of the four-a-side Neptune League and a team from Wessex Anglers came out on top with just three members fishing.
The team comprised Pete Christopher, Simon Barber and Martin Cobb who was on fine form landed a 3lb 13.50oz blonde rays which boasted their team weight to 4lb 7oz.
Generally the action was poor but a good variety of species were recorded including rays, pout, sole, scad, garfish, dogfish and smoothhound.
Runners-up on the night were Boscombe & Southbourne B 2lb 1.50oz followed by Wessex Hawks with 1lb 13.50oz, Boscombe & Southbourne A 1lb 8oz, Wessex Danglers 11oz, Christchurch & District 7.50oz, Pro Angling B 6oz and Pro Angling A 5oz. The rest of the teams failed to land sizable fish.
The next match in the series will be held between Portman Ravine and the end of the promenade on October 13 with fishing from 7.30pm to 10.30pm. Headquarters will be at the Warren Edge car park.
Dates have now been set for the start of the new Wessex Senior Flounder League which is held around the shore of Poole Harbour.
As usual the event is restricted to 70 competitors and there is always a waiting list, so people are advised to get your application soon.
The first match will be held on September 24 at Hamworthy Park with fishing from 7.30am to 10.30pm followed by the second match on October 8 which will also be held at Hamworthy Park with the same fishing times.
Entry into the league will cost £13 and there will also be a £2 pool for the overall best specimen taken in the 12- match series. Full details from Wessex Angling on 01202 668244.
A £200 top prize is on offer when the Lymington club stage their annual Shingle Bank Open on October 4 with fishing from 7pm to midnight.
Tickets for the event which also doubles up as a Penn Point fixture have been set at £7 plus teams and pools.
Juniors will have their own prize table sponsored by Bennett's of Havant, Sea Angling Magazine, Pro Angling and Stainless Steve. The venue will run from Taddiford to the first groyne at Hurst Castle.
