Local anglers carried off several awards during the second Portland Breakwater Open with Keith Jervis winning pools for the heaviest fish after landing a 9lb 8oz thorneback ray.
Jervis, a 36-year-old engineer from Fareham, used a slither of mackerel fish at range to tempt a number of rays, including his prize-winning fish along with a nice mullet in the Weymouth club-organised event.
Ben Phillips, a 21-year-old plasterer from Southampton, landed the heaviest mullet of the day weighing 4lb 8oz.
He ledgered bread flake on a size 8 hook to tempt the specimen.
The day's heaviest ballan wrasse was bagged by Steve Upchurch and tipped the scales down to 5lb 13oz.
Generally the action was far better than the first fixture held on the breakwater with a wide variety of species including ballan, bailion, cuckoo and corkwing wrasse along with rays, pout, poor cod, pollack, scad, garfish, mullet and trigger fish.
Dave Lane, a member of the host club won the event with 21lb 10oz ahead of fellow member Josh Simmonds 19lb 15oz.
Gavin Sloper, a member of the New Milton club came third with 17lb 12oz ahead of Richard Foster 16lb, Keith Jervis 14lb 12oz, Daniel Mogridge 13lb 130z, Malcolm Stote 12lb 12oz, Lee Cullen 12lb 6oz, Chris Clark 12lb 5oz and Tom Tarrier 10lb 8.50oz.
Local freelance anglers have been finding some quality fish with Gary Newman from Totton beaching a cracking sole during a night session at Hill Head which tipped the scales down to 2lb 14oz.
The 28-year-old fitter used ragworm presented on a size 1 hook fished around the 100-yard mark to tempt the specimen over the high water period. During the same session he also landed a small smoothhound, two eels and a nice flounder.
Nigel Sherman also got a taste of the action when he tackled the deep-water section at Lepe where he took a 7lb 3oz bass. The 37-year-old labourer from Southampton used mackerel fished at close range to tempt the specimen just after the top of the tide.
On the boats, Paul Greenacre from Tiptoe landed a 2lb 1oz a very nicely marked three bearded rockling while fish over Christchurch Ledge from his own vessel. The specimen was taken on a slither of squid presented on a 3.0 hook fished in 30ft of water.
Nigel Johnson also had a successful session at Magazine Lane which lies in the shadows of Southampton's container port where he beached a 1lb 5oz red gurnard which shattered the Shirley SAC record.
