NEW Forest MP Julian Lewis was handed a fun-sized pair of scissors for a ribbon cutting ceremony at Abbotswood Junior School in Ringwood Road, Totton.
Dr Lewis was at the school to see the new perimeter fence which has been erected to make the grounds more secure aginst vandals.
He praised the pupils for their hard work in helping to raise the £23,000 needed to fund the 570-metre project.
"It was a great achievement that was reflected in the school assembly I attended, which was a truly inspirational occasion," he said afterwards.
"I told the pupils I was very proud of what they had done."
Abbotswood decided to take action after several incidents in which vandals damaged the school buildings or used the grounds as a short cut.
