Fawley were in sombre mood when they returned to Hampshire League Premier Division action on Saturday after the death of goalkeeper Sean Hale in a road traffic accident.

The club had postponed their previous two games in a mark of respect for Hale, and they held a minute's silence for him before the home game against Bishop's Waltham.

Then they went out and chalked up their second win of the season with Luke Atkinson scoring all four in a 4-2 victory.

Fawley were trailing along in the bottom two for most of last season but have strengthened up their squad and have already accumulated seven points.

"We're so high in the league we'll be getting a nose blood soon, smiled chairman Jeff Oliver.

Top met bottom at Vicarage Lange where leaders Poole Town trimmed Brading Town 4-0.

There was only one goal in it at half-time but the introduction of substitutes Matt Morris and Ian Muir transformed the Dolphins.

Paul Maloney scored direct from a corner then Darren Reeks, Ricky Muir and Boris Cornick added the rest in the second half.

Manager Dave Diaper, pictured, admitted he gave his VT players "their biggest rollicking for four years" when they went into half-time drawing 2-2 with Ringwood Town.

Seasoned Town striker Jason Lovell had caused VT all manner of problems but the Southampton side, stung by Diaper's broadside, bagged a 3-2 win with Gary Male's second goal of the game.

Stockbridge held high-riding East Cowes Vics to a 2-2 draw at Whippingham but manager Barry Andrews was less than satisfied.

He said: "I would have settled for that result before the game, but we took a 1-0 lead in the first half and were controlling it. We let it slip away in the second-half."

Mark Butcher and Gavin Flye hit the net for Stockbridge who might have clinched it late on only for John Vowles to miss out from two yards.

Dan Jones scrambled a last-minute goal to earn Locks Heath a 3-3 draw in a thriller against Horndean.

After Marc Jones and Pete Lines had cancelled out goals from the opposition, Niall Bodin, a Locks Heath lad, gave Horndean the lead with a superb 25-yard chip.

Hedge End are hovering on the brink of calling it a day after crashing to a 13-0 defeat against Micheldever in Division 1.

The season has simply gone from bad to worse for the Hedge Enders who were rocked by an exodus of players during the summer.

For Micheldever, who won their first four games then lost then next two, it was an explosive return to form with Matt Holmes grabbing five of the goals. Mark Green was next in line with a hat-trick.

When Julian Walters and Frank Hopkins took over at Hamble Club, they brought many of their BAT players with them, and two of them, Adie Sheath and Antony Herron, were on target in the 2-0 win at Romsey in Division 2.
