A RAIDER threatened shop staff with a gun and a knife during an attempted robbery in Southampton.
The terrified 73-year-old owner of the Satellite Pet Foods warehouse in William Street, Northam, found himself staring down the barrel of a silver handgun as he came out of the store's office.
When the owner refused to give the man access to the safe, he dropped the gun and produced a small knife with a three-inch blade, which he used to threaten the owner.
The owner managed to escape from the building and the robber then escaped empty-handed down Lower William Street.
The robber is described as slim build, about 20 years old, 5ft 11in and had a local accent.
He was wearing a black balaclava, a black donkey-style jacket and black trousers during the raid last Thursday about 6.40pm.
Det Con Emma Penson, from Shirley CID, said: "We are issuing an appeal for witnesses because at that time of night there's no one around that area, so anybody is going to stick out.
"We are also appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward."Anyone who can help should call Det Con Penson at Shirley CID on 0845 045 4545 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
