With the South Coast Championship Regatta at Swanage taking place today, it will be hoped that BTC's Seniors learned a salutary lesson when Ryde beat them by two feet in a Cat and Mouse senior final at the Weston Shore Regatta.
The mouse got away as BTC left it until the last 100 metres to sprint for the line, only to be matched by Ryde, who had led from the turn after a rare mistake by the BTC coxswain.
BTC's Junior Seniors, with Stroke Ben Larkin injured, had changes all round with Simon Collis moving into the stroke seat, Steve Watts and Dave Larkin changing sides at two and three and James Spake coming into the Bow.
But they maintained their unbeaten run, winning by three lengths over Ryde.
Coalporter's Novices Men, comprising L Smith, D Jones, R Hansford, R Lane (stk) and M Dunn (cox) gained their second win to move up to Juniors next season with a three-lengths win over Itchen Imperial.
Southsea Novice Ladies, comprising J Conyer, T McDonald, A Seward, C Mynhart (stk) and Sophie Gore (cox) rounded off their season with another win with Ryde, again, in second.
There were no mistakes for Southampton Ladies in their final Pairs event as they beat Itchen Imperial, while Christchurch's and Lymington's Men had comfortable wins respectively in the Junior and Senior events.
A first Novice Sculls win of the season for Southampton's Nick Johnson will give him encouragement for the winter, and Simon Tout of Southsea got back to winning ways with a six-lengths win over club mate Paul Hollis in the Senior Sculls.
Ashley Maitland and Mark Jenner of Ryde continued to dominate in the Junior Sculls, and Kaye Hume of BTC rounded off a lonely season as the Association's sole Ladies Senior Sculler, being chased home by Christchurch's Junior Sculls champion Becky Cresswell with Claire Salter third.
Southampton Senior Ladies Four and BTC Junior Ladies Four had comfortable wins but it took a row off between BTC B and Christchurch to decide who would go the South Coast Championships as runners-up at Junior Status.
Poole, the only other winning Senior Ladies crew, refusing representation.
