PUNK rock may be the least sentimental music on the planet, but many fans will experience a twinge of nostalgia in Winchester next week.

Key figures from five of the most influential punk and post-punk outfits of the late 1970s and early 80s go back to basics in this acoustic reunion show - Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols, Billy Duffy of The Cult, Mike Peters of The Alarm, Kirk Brandon of Spear of Destiny and Slim Jim Phantom of The Stray Cats.

Billed as "live and dangerous", the show promises a half-hour performance by each musician ahead of a final ensemble performance.

Despite their aggressive image and hellraising reputation - bottle throwing and on stage bodily mutilation was a staple feature of Sex Pistols concerts - the ageing punk heroes promise a somewhat more civilised evening, with the emphasis firmly on musical appreciation.

All five musicians come have formidable reputations to live up to.

A co-writer of punk anthems such as Anarchy in the UK, God Save the Queen and Pretty Vacant, Matlock continues to tour with the Sex Pistols and has just recorded a new album, On Something.

Billy Duffy was guitarist with The Cult and also worked with Kirk Brandon, writer of Spear of Destiny classics like Never Take Me Alive, Liberator and Mickey.

Mike Peters still sings and plays in The Alarm, while drummer Slim Jim Phantom recently toured the US with his band The Stray Cats, remembered for numbers such as Runaway Boys and Rumble in Brighton.

16 September, Theatre Royal, Winchester. Performance: 8pm. Tickets: from £10.50. Box office: 01962 840440.
