A POLICE investigation is under way today after the body of a 20-year-old man was found in a Southampton block of flats.
A team of forensic experts was sent to the building in Tunstall Road, Thornhill, after the discovery was reported at 6.40pm yesterday.
Officers are treating the death as suspicious until a post-mortem examination is carried out. That is likely to take place later today.
The area will remain cordoned off until the results are known.
The man has not yet been identified and it is not known whether he was local.
Hampshire police spokesman Insp Kevin Baxman said: "The body of a 20-year-old male was found at premises in Tunstall Road.
"We can't say if it's suspicious or not, but it is being treated as a crime scene until we know.
"All the relevant people that are normally present when there is a suspicious death attended the scene."
Peter Doswell, who lives in Tunstall Road, said he had looked out of the window to see the area swarming with police.
The 29-year-old, who is registered disabled, told the Daily Echo: "I saw the police, a police van and two patrol cars attend from about 6pm.
"An ambulance first responder unit was also there.
"There was activity going on all evening. It's not my block, it's the block right behind mine.
"The council was out sawing up posts to cordon the area off and it's got all the police tape round as well.
"It's quite worrying. I looked out the window and it was swarming with police.
"You look out the window and you don't expect to see all that."
