We don't like to blow our own trumpet, but feel we've been doing our bit to champion Southampton band Delays.
Word on the street is that people are started to sit up and take notice of this four-piece, signed to Rough Trade records. They are actually playing support here to Easyworld along with fellow Hampshire based band BlueJay Way - both worth a look in their own right.
The classic guitar pop of Delays has been described by NME as 'an ethereal and freewheeling scree of loveliness'. Their debut single was critically acclaimed on its release in the spring. Their new single Hey Girl is due for release on July 21, with the debut album expected this autumn.
So far the boys have been honing their skills and keeping good company. Stablemates with the likes of the Stokes and Libertines, they have toured in support of The Coral, The Thrills, Mull Historical Society and McAlmont & Butler.
If you haven't yet discovered Delays, get down to the Wedgewood Rooms this weekend.
6 July, Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth. Performance: 8pm Tickets: £7 in advance Box office: 023 9286 3911
