A Hampshire teenager is today fighting for his life after a mystery accident in Hampshire.
The 17-year-old suffered head injuries and a fractured pelvis when he fell into the path of an on coming car in West End.
The youth had been a passenger in a red Vauxhall Corsa being driven by a friend who is also 17 years old.
Police said that the youth, from the Mansbridge area of Southampton, got out of the car before the accident happened.
The driver, from Bitterne, Southampton, then turned around and was heading back to pick him up.
A Hampshire Police spokesman added that as the car approached him the injured teenager appears to have grabbed on to the roof of the Corsa on the driver's side.
But the youngster fell off, into the path of a red Peugeot 406 estate car travelling in the opposite direction.
The emergency services were called and the teenager, who has not been named, was taken to Southampton General Hospital where his condition is critical
Officers have now launched a hunt for witnesses to the accident in West End Road, close to the junction with Ingersley Rise, West End just after 10.30pm on Thursday night. The driver of the Peugeot 406, a 53-year-old woman from the Harefield area ofSouthampton, was not injured.
Any witnesses are uged to call Eastleigh Traffic Police on 0845 045 4545, and speak to officers working on Operation Croghan.
