THIS weekend the Women's Land Army will be descending on the Forest Arts Centre in New Milton for the Lions Part theatre Company production of Lilies on the Land.
The show recounts the tales of over 140 women during the Second World War who worked on the land while the men went to war.
This production will appeal to memories of older members of the audience and reveal an aspect of life in wartime Britain previously unknown to younger members.
The show offers a unique chance for theatre goers to experience the emotions and responses of these women, many of whom had not even set foot in the British countryside before, let alone done any manual farm labour.
Audiences will also be treated to a soundtrack including some much-loved songs of the era.
The Lions Part Theatre Company, largely associated with productions in and around Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London, is set to re-create the hardships and joys of the land girls.
Having already performed the show in Stamford and Guildford, the Lions Part will take Lilies on the Land to Tunbridge Wells and Darlington after Saturday's performances.
5 July, Forest Arts Centre, New Milton. Tickets: from £6. Box office: 01425 619983.
