Andover Golf Club Captain Paul Batchelor was blessed with superb weather for his Captain's Day competition.

The main winner was the Andover Birth Centre, with several hundred pounds being added to Batchelor's charity fund thanks to the 149 competitors who entered.

Once again the golf course was in excellent condition, and fine scoring was in evidence once again. The refreshments served at the halfway point were most welcome, and thanks are due to Wendy Rennison, Jo Stroud, Vice-Captain Kenneth Harley and Suzanne Temple-Scotton.

The June medal results were a good form guide as to who might win the Captain's Trophy. David Chilton (22) won the Sunday Division 3 medal with an amazing net 63, and as a result his handicap was cut from 25 to 22. It seems his excellent form is continuing, as he had another superb round and this time his 42 points were enough to give him first place and the trophy. Perhaps his latest 18 handicap will slow him down a little!

Shaun Justice (+1) also played well in the June medal, with a new course record, and once again he played magnificently to return 41 points for second spot. Postman Harry Bishop also scored well in the June medal and returned a first class 41 points for 3rd place. Kevin Tobin lost out on countback in the medal and did so again, with his excellent 41 points giving him fourth. Luke Graham was 5th with 40 points, John Cooper 6th with 40, Liam Guyatt 7th with 39, Wayne Carn 8th with 39, Rod Skeates 9th with 39 and Bill Savage 10th with 39.

Des Pearce took the seniors' first prize with an excellent 40 points; Jim Ratcliff was second with 39. The first lady was junior member Jade Scott with 38 points, and vice-captain Sarah Bulpitt was second with 37 points.

Juniors' prizes went to Josh Webb, William Turner, Bradley Alland and Harry Bevan. A longest putt competition also took place, with all proceeds going to Batchelor's charity. Greene King generously donated a prize, won by Graham Few. Sue Davis won the ladies' longest drive, Mervyn Perry was the best over 55s driver and not surprisingly Shaun Justice was best of the rest.

Peter Lisle scored a hole-in-one at the 17th in the President's Day competition, and almost repeated the feat on the same hole in the Captain's Day competition. Mervyn Perry was the most accurate in two shots on 18.

The captain thanks all those who took part, and looks forward to his summer barbecue and presentation evening on Saturday July 5.
