Over Wallop 172-6 beat Old Basing 143-8
An excellent bowling and fielding display earned Wallop their third victory of the season in a close-fought match, writes Mark Richards.
Batting first, Wallop were made to work for their runs; with Raye (2-30) and Oldcorn (1-37) claiming two early wickets, backed by tight fielding, it was slow going for the home side.
Wallop were grateful for a stand of 93 between P Cullen (26) and M Richards (63) for the third wicket, and some big hitting at the end by P Barnard (11*) and J Pinchbeck (12), gave them a competitive score.
In reply Basing were in a hurry, taking 33 off the first six overs. It took Mike "The Legend" Powell, rising from his sick bed, to remove the openers, clean bowled. The Wallop spinners, Richards (3-26) and Roy Cavill (2-35), then took control, Cavill in particular producing extravagant turn. With the run rate rising and backed by enthusiasticfielding from youngsters I Clarke, A Cook and Pinchbeck, it was too much to ask for Basing.
