A PAIR of pensioners proved you are never too old for love when they tied the knot in Southampton.
Joan and Ron Low, 74 and 82 respectively, got married at Southampton Register Office on Saturday after sailing their way to romance on a Caribbean cruise.
The couple instantly hit it off when they met on their dream holiday in December 2000.
Joan said: "I came home two weeks before Ron did because my cruise was two weeks and his was a month, so I had to leave him in Barbados.
"He decided he missed me and phoned me from abroad a couple of times. Then he got in touch when he got home.
"He's a mariner from Grimsby and he says that he went fishing and caught a mermaid."
The couple met up at a mutual friend's house in Kent and were living together within six months.
It was just six weeks ago that they both decided marriage would be a logical next step and plans were soon under way for their big day.
Joan said: "It was absolutely perfect. The reception was held at my son's home in his garden and it was just perfect because they went to a great deal of work and we also had a stretched limousine."
Joan and Ron split their time between Joan's home in Pennine Road, Southampton, and Ron's house in Grimsby so they can see as much of their families as possible.
They are even planning a second reception when they return to Grismby next month.
Joan said: "We're planning to have another reception and one of Ron's daughters-in-law is going to make another wedding cake."
