POLICE have confirmed that human remains found next to the M27 two months ago are those of missing Swanmore man David Bolton.
The 61-year-old father-of-two vanished on March 11 from his Swanwick Lane flat where he lived alone.
His decomposed body was found nearly eight weeks later on a grass verge next to the westbound carriageway of the motorway near the Hamble bridge on April 30.
Detectives said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body which appeared to have been there for some weeks.
The delay in formally identifying Mr Bolton resulted from a number of DNA tests which had to be carried out.
A police spokesman confirmed that next of kin had been informed.
Mr Bolton's funeral took place last month in Bovingdon, Hertfordshire, near to where his relatives live.
His friends said he had been feeling down after going on sick leave from his cleaning job at Warsash Mari-time Centre.
Apart from two possible sightings in the New Forest police had failed to come up with any new leads as to his whereabouts.
