CHERISH The Ladies, the title of a traditional Irish jig, has become equally well-known as the name of an all-female folk outfit who make one Hampshire appearance on their forthcoming UK tour.

Irish-American band Cherish The Ladies present music, song and dance at The Anvil in Basingstoke on Thursday.

The five-strong virtuosi instrumentalists combine harmony vocals with their skilful playing, and their act is enhanced by the presence of world-class step dancers recruited from each area or continent they perform in.

Cherish The Ladies have played all over the world and picked up many accolades on their travels including Entertainment Group of the Year from the Irish Voice Newspaper.

They have shared the stage with such noted entertainers as James Taylor, Joan Baez, Emmy Lou Harris, The Clancy Brothers, Tommy Makem, The Chieftains and dozens of symphony orchestras.

They have also recorded seven highly acclaimed albums and made numerous television and radio appearances.

At the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, they were chosen to represent Irish music and culture at the Official Cultural Olympiad. For tickets and more information, call 01256 844244.
