Children from Winchester's Winnall Primary School took to the streets earlier this month when they helped with a litter pick, writes Mark South.
Emily Simpson, Laura Whale, John Whale, Lisa Perrett and Katie Perrett all took part in the clear-up, which was organised by John Green-Wilkinson.
A footpath running beside the M3 near Tesco was the focus of much of the youngsters' attention as they collected and returned more than 20 of the supermarket's abandoned shopping trolleys.
"A very good job was done with the help of the young volunteers." said Mr Green-Wilkinson. "It was all hard work and we are most grateful for their fine example and help."
All five pupils were rewarded in school assembly with gold stars, certificates of achievement and honorary membership of the Winchester Litter Pickers group.
