BASINGSTOKE teenage tennis star Josh Goodall will look to take last week's fine form on the grass at Roehampton across London to Junior Wimbledon today. The 17-year-old, who is coached by Mike Raphael of Hampshire Centrecourt, reached the final eight of last week's Roehampton tournament - beating a seed on his way - before losing to eventual winner Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Today, the Basingstoke player, ranked 38 in the world, is set to face El Salvador born Jaime Cuellar - ranked 14 places below him - in what will be their first-ever meeting.
Goodall, sponsored by Hodson Development and whose rackets are sponsored by Wilson, practised at Wimbledon on Saturday and yesterday, before his match against a player who won one round at Roehampton.
Confidence is high in the Goodall camp - but nothing is being taken for granted.
Mum Sue Goodall said: "He is playing well at the moment and, having played at Wimbledon before, it will certainly be a help.
"There is no pressure on him but, like all parents, we hope he does well."
Last year at SW19, Goodall beat Komlavi Loglo 2-6, 7-6, 6-4, then the number six seed Marcel Felder 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, before losing to the 11th seed Steve Darcis 6-3,6-4.
