EASTLEIGH Community Services staff and volunteers welcomed back a VIP who opened their building seven years ago.
The Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire Mary Fagan was asked to help celebrate ECS' 25th birthday.
It was in July 1996 that Mrs Fagan officially opened the Romsey Road building from which the organisation, which masterminds a huge network of voluntary work, is based.
She was given an hour-long conducted tour of the ECS complex accompanied by the chief executive Ken Dufton and vice chairman Peter Molynuex.
The Lord Lieutenant was shown the various projects including the "nerve centre" which operates the Dial-A-Ride and community transport fleet.
She was impressed with the way ECS role had grown. It currently manages 17 projects ranging from holiday playschemes for children with learning disabilities to day centres for older people.
ECS has a membership of about 200 voluntary organisations.
Its quarter of a century service to the community was marked with an open day at ECS House.
Local people were invited to visit and see the many volunteer opportunities on offer.
