A SERIES of three organ concerts promises a feast of high-quality music at St John the Baptist RC Church in Andover this summer.
Taking full advantage of the three-manual Viscount digital organ installed last year, the parish is raising money for music resources especially new hymnbooks.
The concerts explore different aspects of the organ - as a solo instrument, as part of an instrumental ensemble and as choral accompaniment.
An organ recital by Phillip Harris (St Peter's, Winchester) starts the proceedings tomorrow at 7.15pm.
It will include music by Bach, Elgar, Mendelssohn and Vierne.
Two weeks later, on Sunday 13 July starting at 5pm, the Fingle String Quartet joins forces with resident organist Bruce Randall, who has organised the series, and Chris Bolland in music for strings, trumpet and organ. Included in the programme will be a Handel organ concerto.
The grand finale will be a choral concert on Saturday 26 July at 7.30pm with local chamber choir The Harmonium Singers.
Guest organist will be Douglas Paine, who is just completing three years as organ scholar at Trinity College, Cambridge.
The concert will be a celebration of British choral music, including items from the 1953 Coronation and a performance of Benjamin Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb, marking the 60th anniversary of its composition.
There is no charge for admission at any of the concerts. The fund-raising will be relying on audience generosity in retiring collections.
