THE fish didn't really want to join in the second round of the Reel Care Knockout Cup on Longbridge Lake.
Thunderstorms, rain and high pressure put them off their food and made the event a bit disappointing.
Carbotech Select drew pegs two, 11, 23 and 32, with Lee Woodhouse on peg 23 taking 61lb 4oz of tench and skimmers on the method feeder.
Alex Murray fished pole and pellet for 55lb 14oz, Steve Jackson on peg 11 took 38lb 6oz and G Salisbury on peg two took 34lb 12oz, giving Carbotech a winning team weight of 190lb 14oz.
Cormorants A came second with 140lb, Dave Hambidge saving the day with 57lb 4oz of carp on the feeder and maggot on peg 30 the only feeder peg to produce carp.
Richie Yeo on peg eight took 49lb 10oz on pole and chopped worm. Steve Rochester peg 36 fished waggler and paste for 17lb 3oz with Graham Maton on peg 21a fishing waggler and paste for 15lb 15oz.
Allans Marine were third with a team weight of 120lb 4oz.
Others: Wessex A 116lb 12oz, Ringwood 84lb, Dynamite Baits 76lb 9oz, Wessex II 67lb 2oz, Cormorants B 65lb 9oz, Godfreys Misfits 48lb 13oz.
Carbotech, Cormorants A and Allans Marine B will join Allans Marine A, SAS and Barneys Blacks in the final on August 10.
The third round is in two weeks time and will be a struggle between some of the finest teams in the South, including holders Eastleigh, Poingdestres A, Homestores, Reel Care (including Fish O Mania qualifiers Ray Hayward and Marc Illingworth), Avon Angling, Eastleigh Tightlines, Team Emstat and two Sillybait teams. It is going to be very hard to pick a winner.
The Broadlands Wednesday Evening Series, fished on the lower lake, saw Dave Hambidge win off peg ten with 44lb 10oz of carp.
Others: 2 Paul Sears 43lb 6oz, 3 Graham Tappenden 40lb 15oz, 4 Rick Kajko 40lb 12oz.
Mick Kenny ran out a clear winner at the Thursday Evening Series on Stoneham bottom lake, taking 51lb 15oz of carp and tench from peg 32 on the pole and soft pellet.
Others: 2 Rich Allen 20lb 3oz, 3 Chalkie White 18lb 2oz. Others: Stuart Halliday 17lb 2oz, Graham Tappenden 14lb, Wendy Halliday 12lb 10oz.
Eastleigh's barbecue match at Stoneham top and bottom lakes on Sunday saw Harry Salkeld fish peg one to win with 38lb 14oz of tench, crucians and carp on the pole from joint seconds Denny Brown and Kev Downer with 38lb 4oz.
Others Alistair Murchie 31lb 6oz, Alan Pragnall 29lb 10oz, Graham Tappenden 28lb 12oz.
The last two weeks of the Greenridge Farm Open Summer Series saw Chalkie White win on both Saturdays, taking 56lb 7oz off peg six for the first week to beat Colin Stark (24lb 2oz), Keith Clark (21lb 14oz) and Mick Marsh (20lb 5oz) by a wide margin, and 61lb 6oz on the second week from peg 26 - which also happened to be the golden peg, earning him £220 in prize money. Paul White (49lb 4oz), Karl Salvi (37lb 11oz), Tony Pratten (37lb 6oz) and Mick Kenney (36lb 9oz) filled the next four places. Terry Hiscock won the Wimborne Evening Series match on Emondsham Lake with 31lb 1oz of carp to beat Chris Albiston on 28lb of carp and bits. Simon Barber was third, with 16lb of carp.
The Hordle Evening Series on Spring Lake found Steve Mancy well out in front with 33lb 3oz. Geoff Charman had 22lb 5oz, Chris Albiston (21lb 15oz) was third and Chris Burgess fourth on 21lb 14oz.
Allans Marine held a match on Broadlands' lower and match lakes with Luke Sears, fishing on the lower lake on peg eight, taking 77lb 12oz to win clearly from Mervin Chadd on peg four on the match lake for 58lb 12oz. Ray Hagarty fished the lower lake for third place from peg 20 with 56lb 8oz. Steve Evear was fourth on 53lb 10oz. Fifty anglers fished, weighing in 1,140lb.
Salmon Leap AC held a match on Greenridge Farm on Canals One and Two. Trevor Betteridge took 44lb 2oz of carp to get the better of Stuart Watson on 35lb 8oz. Tony Watson was third on 34lb 12oz.Mark Baker (29lb 2oz) was fourth.
Christchurch held their evening series on Kings and Vincent's with Ian McCall taking five carp for 48lb 6oz.
Others: 2 Steve Nadin (Wessex Angling) 42lb 2oz, 3 Ralph Cook 35lb 12oz, 4 Mike Dean (Bournemouth Lodge) 34lb 9oz, 5 Eddie Harrison
They also held their first club match on Vincent's at the weekend with weights well down on the evening series. Junior Dave Cross took the honours with one carp for 9lb 12oz from Nick King (Dorset Raiders) 5lb 12oz.
