TOPPLING will be returning to his old haunts when he lines up for the Southern Daily Echo sponsored race at Goodwood tomorrow night.
The five year-old used to be trained by Amanda Perrett who operates just a few miles up from the Sussex course near Pulborough.
Thousands of racegoers are expected to converge on the track which is hosting its fourth and last evening card of the year.
The Echo-backed race six-furlong sprint carries more than £5,000 added money and is confined to jockeys who have not ridden more than 50 winners.
And, with the ground riding fast, Toppling's connections will be more than hopeful of a good run from the five-year-old. Moreover the Chepstow-based yard of veteran trainer Milton Bradley is hitting form, as its talented sprinter The Taliong illustrated in last week's Wokingham at Royal Ascot and Pulse's hard fought success at Brighton on Tuesday.
Toppling joined Bradley about 18 months ago and, following Perrett's advice, was initially campaigned over seven furlongs plus and primarily on soft ground.
But Bradley, a genius with cast-offs from bigger stables, soon reckoned otherwise.
"He doesn't want soft ground,'' he explained of the horse who has gone on to win at Nottingham and Yarmouth.
Bradley will also be running Parkside Pursuit, a winner of three races last summer and who recently hinted of a comeback where he was unlucky running at Hamilton. Entries:
