SOUTHAMPTON City's juniors soared to the top of the Wessex Young Athletes' League with runners-up spot in their final match on the Isle of Wight.
But whether Tim Hall's youngsters stay in pole position depends on the final round of matches in two weeks' time with the Isle of Wight needing victory to pip City to the title.
Southampton's under-17 women secured their age-group trophy with a very accomplished performance, dropping only four points. That puts them in an unassailable position with 199 points claimed out of a possible 216.
The under-13 girls still have an outside chance of winning their trophy too, having taken 11 firsts out of a possible 21.
Amy Matthews won the female track athlete-of-the-match award with a double first in the under-13 girls' 100 metres (13.9) and 200m (28.7).
Any girls or boys aged nine to 16 wishing to join Southampton City juniors should phone Tim Hall on 023 8032 0241.
Result: Isle of Wight 458, Southampton City 388, Portsmouth 361.5, Newbury 280.5, Oxford 243, Winchester & District 216.
