SIXTIES comedy jazz band The Temperance Seven are still going strong - and appear to have extended to eight.
No original members remain but the current line-up of musicians who play at the Theatre Royal in Winchester on Friday still boast about 200 years' collective association with the band.
The original Temperance Seven's irreverent attitude to 1920s-style jazz was warmly received when they formed in the late 1950s.
A bunch of art students who started playing in their local pub in 1957, the band had a surprise number one hit in March 1961 with You're Driving Me Crazy, featuring the vocals of Paul MacDowell.
They went on to score with several more hits like Pasadena and Chili Bom Bom before the jazz boom fizzled out
Since then they have appeared in Royal Command Performances, three feature films and seasons in Las Vegas and Hong Kong.
Now led by witty vocalist "Colonel" Alexander Hitchcock Galloway, the Temperance Seven lovingly and faithfully recreate the old hits as well as introducing new compositions in a similar style.
Tickets cost from £10. Box office: 01962 840440.
