SHE'S got a hangdog look and staff at the Blue Cross Animal Welfare Centre at West End reckon that some people think she's ugly.

After four months of unsuccessfully trying to find a good home for her they are hoping that the three-year-old could be somebody's Destiny.

Deep down, Destiny the Neapolitan mastiff is just one big bundle of loveable dog.

Blue Cross animal behaviour adviser Donna Keats said: "She's a bit nervous when she first meets people but when she knows you she loves you."

Neapolitan mastiffs were fairly rare in this country - although their claim to current fame was appearing as Hagrid's dog in the Harry Potter films.

Even though one of her kind has had a starring role on the silver screen, it hasn't made an ounce of difference to Destiny's predicament.

The bitch has been at the Blue Cross centre since February after her previous owner said she was out working all day and admitted that Destiny was too big for her house.

Donna said: "Usually we get people asking about all the big dogs because they are so appealing. Maybe some people have been put off by her size, and perhaps they look at all that extra skin and think she is ugly, poor thing.

"We have even been in contact with Neapolitan Mastiff Rescue - but there is no one waiting for one at present."

"I think she would be a lovely pet for someone. She is quite placid and laid back - I can see her in a nice big house in the country."

The Blue Cross say that the ideal home for Destiny would be made up of adults only, where she was the only animal and somewhere that had a reasonable amount of space.
