Lymington trio Neil McGrigor, Tony Jenvey and Simon Rogers have shattered the Round Britain record.

In their 29ft Revenger RIB powered by twin Yanmar diesels, they flew across the Lymington/Yarmouth finish line in bright sunshine and glassy water conditions.

They managed to knock 9hrs 43mins off the under-30 foot world record in a time of 33hrs 11min 04secs.

They were also faster than the 30-50 foot World record by 4hrs 38mins.

The times were recorded by an official RYA time keeper and the adventurers are awaiting official ratification.

The Hampshire team's weather router gave the green light at lunchtime last Friday, indicating that the high pressure centred over the UK extended to the top of Scotland and would give excellent conditions for the weekend.

When they trio were off Dover both engines were shut down after an unusual noise was hard.

The port gearbox was the problem and so the team reduced their speed to 35 knots from a top speed of 50 for the final two and a half hour stretch.
