Lymington Town SC's Calshot Challenge Trophy Race, normally a long distance two part race, proved impossible to run in baking weather.
Instead 10 dinghies took part in a shorter race on a run against the tide to Hamstead Ledge.
Most of the slower boats soon realised they would never get across the tide so retired.
The faster boats cheated the tide down the mainland shore before slicing across to the buoy and turned for a short tide lifted beat back to the finish.
Toby Collyer's RS700 soon opened up a substantial lead which was never challenged.
As soon as Hamstead had been rounded, the superior upwind speed of the 600s came into their own and they overtook the 400s.
The handicap calculations saw Collyer win followed by John Cooper (RS400) in second and Heissig (RS600) third.
