Andover 100 lost to South Wilts 184-8

A depleted Andover 1st XI side were beaten by their Wiltshire neighbours South Wilts on their first timed game of the season by a convincing 84 runs, writes Lesley Morgan.

Roger Miller won the toss, and in view of a weakened side with both opening bowler being injured, elected to field, and in the first session, with the unpredictable wicket, Andover had South Wilts at 83 for 5 off 42 overs, with all four top batsmen back in the pavilion.

After lunch Caines (40) and Glasson (40) put on 58 runs before Caines was run out by Hayward, and Glasson stumped by van der Merwe off Roger Miller. The captain was pleased with his bowlers for holding the opponents to such a gettable score.

Andover began their innings brightly, with Mark Miller (25) and Steve Williams (15), before both were trapped lbw. Holewell, returning to his old home club, and Draper both used the pitch to their advantage, and with Smith coming on to clear the last four wickets for four runs, Andover ran out at 100 all out. The best bowlers were Draper (18-4) and Smith (4-3-4-4).
