Crazy for You - Southampton Musical Society, Nuffield theatre
SOUTHAMPTON Musical Society high-kicks its way into its 75th year in showbiz with Gershwin's wonderful all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza.
Stage-struck Bobby Child forsakes high finance to pursue his love of the theatre and falls for a certain gal in humble Hicksville.
What a pleasure to see a well-directed, focused cast who have got rhythm - under the imaginative choreography of Sarah Curtis - but can also act convincingly.
A chorus of cowboys and glitzy showgirls were brilliantly animated and captured some lovely cameo roles.
Wayne Ings as Bobby Child exudes all the qualities of a leading man - energy, romance and humour coupled with some nifty footwork.
His rendition of They Can't Take That Away From Me had real tingle-factor. Likewise did Natalie Baker's Someone To Watch Over Me.
She puts in a fine performance as the feisty Polly. This strong double-act is supported superbly by brilliant comic timing from George Tinsley as theatre mogul Bela Zangler.
