CATRIONA Whitcombe proved herself a girl for the big occasion at Portsmouth on Saturday.
Aiming for her first ever trip to the English Schools' Championships, the 14-year-old, pictured, came up trumps with victory and a personal best in the junior girls' 800 metres at the Hampshire Schools Championships.
Showing New Forest's Hayley Pointer and Southampton's Charlotte Benning a clean pair of heels, the Romsey schoolgirl powered home in 2.18.8, well inside the English Schools qualifying time of 2.20.0.
