TIME is running out for a long established Alresford Guide group which looks set to close unless a new leader is found in the next six weeks.

The 2nd Alresford Guides embarked on the hunt after their leader for the past ten years announced she was leaving the district.

But despite putting up more than 100 posters advertising for a new leader for the 30-year-old company, no willing volunteers have come forward.

The situation is now looking so desperate that 15 young Guides may have to bid a fond but final farewell to their weekly group meetings at the Methodist Church Hall in Jacklyns Lane.

District commissioner and 4th Alresford Brownie pack leader Jo Curtis said: "Sue Fielding, the current leader, will be going at the end of August.

"We have been looking for a replacement for the past couple of months but we have had no interest at all, even though we have tried several ways of attracting some attention."

If the group does close, the nearest alternative Guides will be three miles away in Bishop's Sutton.
