SAINTS midfielder Anders Svensson claims his club are chasing Swedish international colleague Kim Kallstrom.
Svensson told a Swedish newspaper that Djurgarden midfielder Kallstrom would be a good addition to manager Gordon Strachan's squad.
Kallstrom and Svensson, pictured above, are currently competing for a single place in the Sweden team, where Svensson regained the edge with his midweek double against Poland.
But Svensson insists he would have no qualms about welcoming his rival to St Mary's.
"I know that Southampton are interested. They have been and watched Kim," Svensson told Aftonbladet.
"They have also asked me what I think of him - Kim is a fantastic player."
He added: "Southampton would be good for Kim, absolutely. A great stadium and a club that takes care of its players.
"I haven't spoken to him about it yet but if a bid came in we would certainly talk."
Meanwhile, chairman Rupert Lowe has denied reports that Saints are aiming to bring either Old Trafford star Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or Nottingham Forest striker Marlon Harewood to the club.
As reported in our final edition yesterday, Lowe has also denied rumours linking Saints with Manchester City's Shaun Goater, Monaco pair Shabani Nonda and Franck Juretti, Motherwell striker James McFadden, Spanish star Gaizka Mendieta and French striker Tony Vairelles.
Speaking of the speculation surrounding the Monaco pair, Lowe said: "I don't know anything about either of them. We have not made any bid.
"Nor have we made any approach for Solskjaer or Harewood - or any of the others.
"It is simply a case that people think we are the only club with money to spend and they are trying to stitch two ends to meet up in the middle.
"We are looking to bring in a couple of players but it is becoming increasingly difficult to improve the squad within our budget.
"There is no point signing someone for the sake of it.
"We will only do so if they will improve us but we do have a few possibilities in mind."
