NAKED rights campaigner Steve Gough took a stroll in the Southampton sun yesterday but nude Steve got a cool Friday 13th reception as he was promptly arrested outside the Southampton Magistrates' Court building.
The 44-year-old Eastleigh father of two was due to appear before the magistrates to face an allegation under section five of the Public Order Act.
It followed a five-mile naked cycle trek, which he made earlier in the year to BBC South's studios to record an interview for the networked Home Truths programme presented by veteran disc jockey John Peel.
Today, Steve had sat in the sun sipping a coffee outside a cafe in London Road before stripping off his clothes and making the short trip to the courthouse.
One woman passer-by tried to avert her gaze but turned to have a good look as the bare bottom wandered up the road.
On the forecourt of the courthouse Steve unfurled a banner, which read: "The naked body - disgusting?"
A police motorcyclist pulled up and Steve was asked to cover up.
A court security guard then arrived on the scene and Steve - still naked - was escorted through the reception area of the courthouse towards a lift.
One woman who had been sitting outside the courthouse at the time said: "That made my day."
A film crew was recording Steve's latest naked demonstration for a programme called Getting Naked, which is being broadcast on the national network next month.
Producers Chris Hill said: "The whole programme will look at the world of nakedness. We will be looking at the movement that Steve is involved in."
Steve is planning on Monday to start a naked trek from Land's End to John O'Groats.
