Saints chairman Rupert Lowe has denied reports that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Marlon Harewood are set to join the club and that any transfer deals are imminent.

After making a tidy sum of money through their successful FA Cup run this season, Saints have been linked with a whole host of targets including the Manchester United and Nottingham Forest hitmen.

But those rumours, along with ones linking Manchester City's Shaun Goater, Monaco pair Shabani Nonda and Franck Juretti, Motherwell striker James McFadden, Spanish star Gaizka Mendieta and French striker Tony Vairelles have all been knocked back.

Speaking of the speculation surrounding the Monaco pair, Lowe said: "I don't know anything about either of them. We have not made any bid.

"Nor have we made any approach for Solskjaer or Harewood - or any of the others.

"It is simply a case that people think we are the only club with money to spend and they are trying to stitch two ends to meet up in the middle.

"We are looking to bring in a couple of players but it is becoming increasingly difficult to improve the squad within our budget.

"There is no point signing someone for the sake of it. We will only do so if they will improve us but we do have a few possibilities in mind."
