TWO colleges in the Eastleigh area will each get a million-pound boost to put health, fitness and sport firmly on the timetable.

Hampshire County Council leader Councillor Ken Thornber yesterday approved a £2.3m investment for Wyvern Technology College, Fair Oak, and Hedge End's Wildern Secondary School.

Wildern School has recently undergone a number of improvements including a new youth centre.

Now proposals for a new multi-use hall, health and fitness suite, changing facilities and reception area, plus the upgrade of existing sports facilities, have been given the go ahead.

Cash from the £1.1m scheme has come from the county council, Eastleigh Council and parish councils.

The £1.2m project for Wyvern will include a new multi-use studio and enlarged health and fitness suite with changing facilities. Existing tennis courts are to be upgraded and new fencing and floodlighting installed.

Cllr Thornber said: "I am pleased that through working in partnership we are able to provide these excellent new sports facilities.

"One of the county council's aims is to work in partnership to build strong and safe communities and provide opportunities for all. These projects will benefit not only the pupils at schools but also the local communities."
